Most ecommerce audits stop at titles and canonicals. But a category page now has to do more than rank: it has to let AI crawlers in, give them facts they can quote, and answer the shopper’s next question before they go and ask ChatGPT. I built this optimiser around those jobs, because that’s how I prioritise fixes for every store I work with.

What it checks

What the ecommerce SEO optimiser checks

More than 45 checks, grouped by the four jobs every product and category page has to do. Each finding shows the evidence from your page and the fix.

Job 1

Get found

Robots rules for Google and AI crawlers, firewall blocks, content that only appears after JavaScript, crawlable links, canonicals and page speed.

Job 2

Get understood and quoted

Answer-first summary, heading structure, spec tables and Product, Offer, Breadcrumb and FAQ schema, validated against Google’s required properties.

Job 3

Help shoppers choose

Buying guidance, comparisons and FAQs, plus a live check of what an AI engine actually searches about your page and whether you answer it.

Job 4

Earn trust and the sale

Reviews in the HTML, delivery, returns, warranty and sizing details, and related products, so shoppers don’t leave to double-check elsewhere.

What makes it different

SEO and GEO in one report, built for ecommerce pages

Search engines and AI answer engines read the same page, but they need different things from it. This optimiser checks both in one pass, so you don’t fix one and break the other.

How it works

How the optimiser checks your page

  1. It reads the page like a crawler. It fetches the raw HTML before any JavaScript runs, then again as Googlebot, GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot to catch firewall blocks.
  2. It works out what the page is. It confirms it’s a product or category page and refuses homepages and blog posts, which need different checks.
  3. It tests every check and scores the four jobs. Each result comes with the evidence it found, and Google PageSpeed adds the speed fixes worth doing first.
  4. It shows what AI engines look up. Signed-in users get a live AI search check: the searches Gemini runs for a shopper question about the page, the sites it cites, and whether your page answers each one.
Page types

Product pages vs category pages: what each needs

Product pages (PDPs)

  • Price and stock in the HTML, matching the Offer schema
  • A spec table, not specs inside images or JavaScript tabs
  • Complete Product schema with identifiers (GTIN, MPN or SKU)
  • Reviews, delivery, returns and sizing on the page itself
  • Comparisons with alternatives and related products

Category pages (PLPs)

  • An answer-first intro above the product grid
  • Products listed in the HTML, not loaded later by JavaScript
  • Buying guidance, comparisons and category FAQs
  • Links to sub-categories and buying guides
  • Filter and sort URLs that don’t create duplicate pages

What this free tool won’t do

A free tool should help you, not oversell itself. So, plainly:

  • It checks one URL at a time. Problems are usually template-wide, so check one page of each template.
  • It can’t see pages behind logins, country redirects or firewalls that block it, and it says so when that happens.
  • Scores are a guide weighted by priority, not a prediction of rankings or revenue.
  • The live AI search check is one real sample. AI answers vary by person, location and day.
  • It finds and explains problems. It doesn’t change your site, and it can’t judge your commercial priorities.

Use the tool to find the problems. Use a session to decide what to fix first.

In a free 30-minute session I review your templates and catalogue and tell you which fixes move revenue first, and which you can safely ignore. Book a free session.

FAQ

Ecommerce SEO optimiser FAQs

What is an ecommerce SEO optimiser?

It checks a single product or category page the way an experienced ecommerce SEO would: whether search engines can crawl and index it, whether its structured data is valid, how fast it loads, and whether its content answers what shoppers ask. This one also checks GEO: whether AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Mode can read, quote and recommend the page.

What does GEO mean for product and category pages?

GEO (generative engine optimisation) is making a page easy for AI answer engines to retrieve, understand and cite. For a shop that means product facts in the HTML rather than loaded by JavaScript, complete Product and Offer schema, a short answer-first summary, spec tables, and answers to the comparison, sizing, delivery and returns questions shoppers ask AI assistants.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Yes, it’s free. You can run a check without signing up and see your SEO and GEO scores, how the page does on its four jobs and your top fixes. A free account, with Google or email, unlocks the full report, the live AI search check, AI-written recommendations, and saved, shareable reports.

What is query fan-out, and how does the live AI search check work?

When a shopper asks an AI assistant a question, it doesn’t run one search; it runs several related searches and combines the results. That is query fan-out. The tool asks Google’s Gemini a realistic shopper question about your page with Google Search switched on, records the searches Gemini actually ran and the sites it cited, then checks whether your page has a passage that answers each search.

Which ecommerce platforms does it work with?

Any public product or category page: Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento / Adobe Commerce, BigCommerce, headless and custom builds. For the most common fixes it adds instructions specific to Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento.

Does it check page speed?

Yes. It runs Google PageSpeed Insights on the page and lists the fixes with the biggest estimated savings, such as images, render-blocking files or unused scripts, with the files involved and what to do about each.

Can I share the report or save it as a PDF?

Yes. Signed-in users can save any report as a PDF, email it to themselves or a colleague, or create a read-only share link that they can turn off at any time.

How accurate are the scores?

The checks are real tests of your live page, but the scores are a guide, not a ranking prediction: each check is weighted by how much it usually matters. AI answers also vary between people and over time, so the live AI search check is one real sample, not a guarantee. Use the report to find problems; use judgement, or a session with me, to decide what to fix first.

What data do you store?

Your name, email, company, profile answers and the reports you run. Google sign-in shares only your name, email and Google account ID. Passwords are stored hashed. Monthly tips are sent only if you opt in. You can download, correct or delete your data at any time from your account.
